The main finding of the study conducted under Reeves' leadership was that executives tend to overestimate the predictability and malleability of their environments. Over 80% of the executives believed that achieving goals depended more on their own actions than on uncontrollable factors. Additionally, while most executives agreed on the importance of building adaptive capabilities for unpredictable environments, less than 20% felt competent in this area.
